IMPORTANT: Our premade WordPress themes are only for wordpress.org they will not work on wordpress.com! If you have purchased hosting and installed wordpress.org then you will be all set.
Before getting started:
- Be sure you have purchased hosting and your domain name and installed WordPress.org. Need help? See this guide.
- Log into your site. You can do this by visiting: yoursite.com/wp-login.php and then entering the username and password you created when you installed WordPress.
- Navigate to your dashboard. If you are not familiar with how to do this simply hover over your title in the upper left hand corner where you see the little home button and choose “dashboard” a long black panel will show up on the left side of your screen with all the areas you will need to access.
Now let’s get your theme installed:
Step 1. Download (do not open or extract) the 2 zip files you received after purchase. One will be the Genesis folder and the other your theme folder.
Step 2. Upload the Genesis zipped folder.
From your dashboard navigate to Appearance—>> Themes and then click “add new”. Locate the zipped “genesis” file and upload it (preview shown below). No need to activate it just upload and move on to step 5.
Step 3. Upload your zipped theme folder.
Your theme folder will be titled by the theme name for example the jayne & co. theme would be “jayne-theme” Becoming brooke would be “brooke-theme” etc… After you upload click “activate” to make this your new theme design.
Now take a look at your site and your new design should be installed! You may need to add your blog title, if so those directions are in the individual theme setup guides.
If you do not see your latest posts on your homepage or you have a blank white page see this tutorial for help.
If you already had items in your primary sidebar that moved to the header section, simply navigate to dashboard—>>>Appearance—>>>Widgets and drag anything you see in the header section back down to the sidebar area.
